PED 2210 explores critical areas in sport. Students will examine the meaning of sport(s) in America by exploring the social constructions and dominant mythologies that are reified within our culture (governing structures, media, government and ourselves). Issues of race, class, gender, sexuality, (dis)ability and age will be some of the social constructions we examine to create a deeper appreciation of our current socio-political moment, sport and of ourselves. Hopefully, this course will encourage you to think differently about sport and foster a deeper appreciation for the meaning(s) of sport and ground your future decisions.
